India Offers $2 Billion Incentive to Attract Global IT Hardware Production

India has launched a $2.1 billion financial incentive plan to attract laptop, tablet, and other hardware manufacturers to the country as companies look to diversify supply chains beyond China. The plan proposes a cashback of 5% to companies on factory gate prices of finished products, and local sourcing of components will help manufacturers win more financial benefits. The move comes after the early success of Apple's local assembly operations in India, which have helped the company produce about 7% of its global iPhone output. Other manufacturers who could take advantage of the new measures include Dell, HP, and Asustek Computer.
