The Oscars will relocate from Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre to the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles for the 2029 ceremony under a 10-year deal with AEG, with venue upgrades and a larger audience; the event will also be broadcast on YouTube.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and AEG announced a multiyear deal moving the Oscars from the Dolby Theatre to the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles, starting with the 101st ceremony in 2029 through 2039, with venue upgrades and a global exclusive YouTube broadcast deal; red carpet and related events will be staged at the LA Live plaza, and the show will shift to YouTube for global rights after 2028.
Two suspects, Phillip Pasco Clark and Santana Jermaine Kelly, have been charged with the murder of Sidney Barrett Morris at an L.A. Live restaurant in November. Morris, who worked as the equity and diversity director at CSUN, was shot in the back of the head while eating alone. The defendants pleaded not guilty and face a preliminary hearing on April 25. If convicted, Kelly faces a maximum sentence of 100 years to life, while Clark faces a maximum sentence of 85 years to life.
L.A. Live, the entertainment center in downtown Los Angeles, will be renamed Peacock Place starting July 11 as part of a multi-year naming rights agreement between AEG and NBC Universal's streaming service, Peacock. The agreement includes renaming the Microsoft Theater to Peacock Theater and the XBOX Plaza to Peacock Place. Peacock will have a brand presence across L.A. Live, including a new LED marquee and a banded content studio. This is the third renaming of local venues in Los Angeles, following the renaming of the Staples Center to Crypto.com Arena and Banc of California Stadium to BMO Stadium.
Microsoft Theater, located across from Crypto.com Arena, will be renamed Peacock Theater as part of a multiyear deal with NBCUniversal and AEG. L.A. Live will also be known as Peacock Place. The agreement establishes Peacock as the exclusive streaming partner of L.A. Live. The deal includes enhanced brand presence across the district, including significant interior and exterior signage at Peacock Theater, fixed signage at Peacock Place, a branded content studio, and customized fan activations and brand integrations throughout select premium locations.
