Russian Hackers Target Royal Family Website in Cyber Attack

Russian hacktivist group KillNet targeted the official website of the Royal Family in a denial of service attack, causing the site to be inaccessible for 90 minutes. The attack came shortly after King Charles condemned the war in Ukraine. KillNet claimed responsibility for the attack on the messaging app Telegram, with their leader, KillMilk, boasting about it on his personal blog. While no sensitive information was compromised, the incident highlights the vulnerability of the Royal Family's cyber defenses. The family has been supportive of Ukraine, with royals expressing solidarity and hosting President Volodymyr Zelensky at Buckingham Palace. The attack was executed using a Distributed Denial of Service technique, which involves overwhelming the target server with traffic, potentially causing prolonged outages. The Royal Household has recently strengthened its cybersecurity measures, but a Palace report warned of the "high risk" posed by cyber criminals.

Massive DDoS Attack Causes Microsoft Azure, Outlook, and OneDrive Disruptions

Microsoft has attributed the recent service outages of Azure, Outlook, and OneDrive to a DDoS attack by an unknown group called Storm-1359. The attack was likely carried out using rented cloud infrastructure, open proxies, and DDoS tools. While no customer data was accessed or compromised, the attacks temporarily impacted the availability of some services. Anonymous Sudan, a hacktivist group, has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but Microsoft has not explicitly linked Storm-1359 to Anonymous Sudan. KillNet, a Kremlin-affiliated collective, has also been linked to the attacks on healthcare entities hosted in Microsoft Azure.
