The Mysterious Disappearances in Japan's Bermuda Triangle
Kamagasaki, a slum in Osaka, Japan, is known as a place where people go to disappear and start anew. Many of its residents are "evaporated people" who have cut themselves off from their old lives elsewhere. The slum is Japan's largest "yoseba," where prospective employers can find day laborers. Many people living in the Kamagasaki slum have changed their names to maintain their anonymity. It is easy to maintain anonymity and hide in plain sight in Japan, where privacy is highly valued.
