Tragic End for Missing Reedley Police K-9 Found Dead near Visalia

Reedley Police K9 officer Kona was found dead near Visalia after escaping from his home on the Fourth of July. It appears that Kona was hit by a vehicle before crawling into an orchard where he later died. Despite efforts to locate him using an AirTag tracking device, a happy reunion was not possible. Video surveillance shows Kona escaping the backyard when fireworks were set off. The California Highway Patrol will determine if a hit-and-run report will be filed. Kona was set to retire from police service in August.

A police chase that began in South Elgin ended in a crash and shootout in Geneva, resulting in the death of a K9 officer and a carjacking suspect. The suspect had allegedly stolen a Honda Accord in Aurora and had fled authorities previously.
