Haitian President's Widow Indicted in Assassination Case

The widow of Haiti’s late President Jovenel Moïse, Martine Moïse, has been indicted by a Haitian judge in connection to his 2021 assassination, accused of complicity and criminal association. However, the indictment fails to provide direct evidence of her involvement. Former Prime Minister Claude Joseph and former chief of Haiti’s National Police, Léon Charles, also face severe charges, while many of the accused claim that the current Prime Minister Ariel Henry is using the court as a political weapon. Haiti has been plagued by unrest and violence since the assassination, with the country still without a president or other elected official at the national level.
