Biden selects Air Force General C.Q. Brown as top US military leader.

President Joe Biden is set to announce Gen. C.Q. Brown, the Air Force’s top officer and the first Black person to lead any branch of the military, as his next Joint Chiefs chair, replacing Army Gen. Mark Milley. If confirmed, Brown would become the first Black Joint Chiefs chair in 30 years and the first time in the nation’s history that the Pentagon’s top military and civilian positions are held by African Americans. Brown is considered the right person for the job, with deep field experience in theaters across the globe, including commanding troops in the Pacific and the Middle East.

Biden to nominate Air Force chief as top military officer.

President Joe Biden is expected to nominate Gen. C.Q. Brown, the Air Force’s top officer and the first Black person to lead any branch of the military, to succeed Gen. Mark Milley as the next Joint Chiefs chair. If confirmed, Brown would become the second Black Joint Chiefs chair in the nation’s history. Brown’s reputation and command experience in both the Pacific and the Middle East made him the odds-on favorite to be Milley’s heir apparent dating back to the Trump administration.
