John Forté Dies at 50, Remembered as Fugees Collaborator and Refugee Camp Pioneer
John Forté, the rapper-producer who helped shape the Fugees era as part of the Refugee Camp All-Stars and contributed to The Score, died at 50 at his Massachusetts home; authorities said there were no signs of foul play and the state medical examiner will investigate. A Rawkus associate who later faced a 2000 drug-trafficking arrest and a 2002 commutation aided by Carly Simon, Forté returned to music with multiple albums and film scoring work before his death.
