Tributes flow after John Forté's death; Fugees collaborator dies at 50
John Forté, Grammy-nominated musician known for his work with the Fugees and the Refugee Camp All-Stars, died at 50 at his home in Chilmark, Massachusetts; police say there are no obvious signs of foul play and the state medical examiner is investigating. A New York native and multi-instrumentalist, Forté contributed to The Score and The Carnival and released solo albums including Poly Sci and I John, with his 2021 project Vessels, Angels & Ancestors. He previously faced a 2000 arrest for liquid cocaine that led to a prison sentence later commuted by President George W. Bush. He is survived by his wife Lara Fuller and two children, with tributes pouring in from friends and fellow artists.
