A Michigan State Police trooper was involved in a dangerous incident when a driver sped away from a traffic stop with the trooper partially inside the vehicle. The suspect initially cooperated but then attempted to get back into his car, leading to a physical struggle with the trooper. The suspect managed to drive off with the trooper hanging out of the window, reaching speeds of nearly 100 mph before the trooper freed themselves. The suspect later turned himself in and is currently in custody facing multiple charges. The trooper suffered minor injuries and was released from the hospital.
A man from Klamath Falls, Oregon, who is accused of kidnapping a woman and locking her in his garage, attempted to escape from his own jail cell at the Jackson County jail. A maintenance worker noticed an unusual noise coming from the cell and alerted sheriff's deputies. The man now faces additional charges of attempted second-degree escape and first-degree criminal mischief.
A federal lawsuit has been filed against Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer, Jail Commander Chris Everhart, jail personnel, and Advanced Correctional Healthcare, Inc. after Joshua McLemore died due to a lack of attention by jail staff. McLemore, who had a history of substance abuse and mental health issues, was left alone in his cell, naked, barely sleeping or eating, for almost three weeks as he wasted away in front of their eyes. The lawsuit seeks damages, including compensation for mental, physical and emotional pain, along with punitive damages, attorneys’ fees, and other applicable relief.
