Iga Swiatek's Secret Doping Ban: Impact and Controversy in Tennis
Iga Swiatek, the world No. 2 in women's tennis, is serving a one-month doping ban after testing positive for trimetazidine, a prohibited substance, due to contamination in a melatonin supplement she was taking for jet lag. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) ruled her level of fault as minimal, leading to a short ban. The case was kept confidential during the appeal process, as per Tennis Anti-Doping Programme regulations. Swiatek will be eligible to play again from December 4, allowing her participation in the 2025 Australian Open.
