"Monsoon Wedding" the musical, based on the 2001 film of the same name, is a visually stunning production with catchy music and some strong performances, but falls short in character development and plot. Director Mira Nair still has work to do in knitting together the serious and silly threads of the story, and some of the characters feel like canned caricatures. However, the opening number and evocative dances are highlights, and with some refinement, the musical could be a more successful journey into Indian culture.
