DeSantis' Presidential Campaign Triggers Surge in Taxpayer-Funded Security Costs
Florida taxpayers spent $8.8 million over the past year to provide security for Governor Ron DeSantis and his family as he prepared for and launched his presidential campaign. The expenses, outlined in a report by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, include $8 million for protecting DeSantis and $670,000 for protecting the first lady. These costs represent a significant increase compared to previous years and exceed the expenses incurred by DeSantis' predecessor, Governor Rick Scott. Additionally, the department spent $457,000 on protecting visiting dignitaries, a substantial rise from previous years.
