Gmail's package tracking feature now has two new capabilities: bumping emails to the top of the inbox if the delivery date changes, and displaying a store's return policy in the package tracking card. These features are rolling out this month. Additionally, Google has updated the "Mark as unread" button on Android and is rolling out an updated Google Chat with a new double bottom bar in Gmail on iOS and the web.
Google is introducing a "Select All" button to Gmail for Android, allowing users to easily clean up their inbox by selecting multiple emails at once. While the feature is limited to a maximum of 50 emails, it is a long-awaited addition that has been available on the web version of Gmail for some time. The update is being rolled out on a per-device basis and does not require an app update.
Gmail is starting to show more ads on mobile devices and the web, including within the inbox's "Updates" filter and mixing ads on desktop throughout the list of emails under Gmail tabs. Some users report seeing more ads in general, instead of the two that Google would typically show. There doesn't appear to be any new setting to change the placement of ads in the inbox lists, and the change has received negative feedback from users.
Google Home app version 3.0 has introduced an "Inbox" feed that replaces the old "Activity" tab, while version 3.1 has redesigned lighting controls with more color options and fine-grain controls. The circular on/off button has been replaced by a large pill that acts as a slider, and a grid of presets appears below. The app also features a notification bell icon that opens the "Inbox" feed.
