"Concerns rise as Venezuela deportation flights resume and migrants urgently seek TPS status"

President Joe Biden's decision to resume deportation flights of Venezuelans has raised concerns among immigration advocates. The impact of these flights on the migrant population in Chicago and Illinois remains unclear. Mayor Brandon Johnson continues to call for more aid from the state and federal governments to support the growing migrant population in Chicago. While the mayor met with Illinois House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch to discuss additional funding, Governor J.B. Pritzker expressed limited interest in allocating more money for migrant relief. Johnson emphasized the need for shared responsibility and urged other stakeholders to contribute. The mayor also addressed concerns about relocating migrants before winter and criticized the right-wing extremists for causing turmoil in Venezuela. Immigration advocates questioned the contradictory nature of granting protected status to some Venezuelans while resuming deportations for others. The details of how the deportations will be carried out and their impact on migrants already in Chicago remain unclear.

Texas Governor Abbott Sends Migrants on Bus to Los Angeles

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has bused 42 migrants to Los Angeles, claiming it as "much-needed relief" for his state. The migrants, including eight children and several older people, were given food, shelter, and legal aid at a church near downtown. Immigration advocates said that the migrants were exhausted, tired, and traumatized. It is unclear whether the migrants voluntarily made the trip or whether they knew where they were going. Los Angeles is just the latest California city to receive migrants from red states whose conservative governors have gone head-to-head with Gov. Gavin Newsom.
