Tragic Sledding Accident Claims Lives of Illinois Teens at Copper Mountain Ski Resort.

The half-pipe at Copper Mountain Ski Resort where two Illinois teens were killed while sledding was off-limits, according to company officials. The teens were sledding on a single device through the constructed tubular half-pipe when they landed hard on hard ice below the half-pipe. Sledding was not allowed in the area at the base of the ski slopes where the teens had ventured Sunday evening. The resort closes all lift and trail access at 4 p.m. daily, including the halfpipe, which was closed and roped off at the time of the incident.

Two teens visiting Colorado for spring break were killed in a sledding accident at Copper Mountain Ski Resort. They were riding tandem down the halfpipe and launched off a large snowbank, landing hard on the ice below and suffering fatal blunt-force trauma. First responders were unable to revive them. The victims were identified as a 17-year-old and 18-year-old from Illinois.
