IHSAA Implements Percentage-Based School Classifications.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) has approved a new 20-25-25-30 classification model for its four-class sports of basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball. Class 4A will make up the largest 20% of schools, with the next 25% in 3A, the next 25% in 2A, and the smallest 30% in Class A. The change will take effect in 2024-25 and replaces a proposal to set enrollment caps on each class. The IHSAA also plans to apply data from two years annually to determine tournament success factor starting in 2024-25.

Brownsburg boys track and field team won their first state championship in program history, using their depth to score points in 10 of 16 events to hold off Carmel and last year's defending champion Plainfield. Junior Dominic Calhoun won the 200 meters, took second in the 100, and was the anchor to Brownsburg's blazing 4x100-meter relay champion, which set a state record with a 40.70 time. The meet was full of record-breaking performances and some surprises, including Bloomington North setting a state finals meet record in the 4x800 relay and Plainfield's Nayyir Newash-Campbell setting a state record in the 400 meters.
