Judge Rejects Plea Deal in Deadly Minneapolis Carjacking Case

A judge in Minneapolis has declined to accept the plea agreement of Husayn Braveheart, an accomplice in a deadly carjacking that occurred in 2019. Braveheart, who was 15 years old at the time of the crime, recently appealed to be certified as an adult. While he didn't fire the fatal shot, Braveheart fired after the victim drove off. The plea deal offered by Hennepin County prosecutors, which would have allowed Braveheart to serve probation instead of prison time, was controversial. The judge's decision was met with disagreement from the county attorney's office, who argued that Braveheart had responded well to treatment during his incarceration and that continued serious treatment would be the best way to protect the public. The family of the victim has been strongly opposed to the plea deal.
