"Chaos and Testimony: Highlights and Resting of Case in Ken Paxton's Impeachment Trial"

The House impeachment managers have rested their case against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton after a chaotic day in the trial. The prosecution's attempt to call a crucial witness, Laura Olson, who allegedly had an affair with Paxton, was abandoned, and the defense sought a dismissal of the articles of impeachment. The prosecution also faced challenges in proving allegations that a friend and donor of Paxton paid to renovate his home. The trial will continue with the defense's witnesses, and the House has proposed a rule change to automatically disqualify Paxton from holding state office if convicted.

"Texas Senate to Consider Rules for Ken Paxton's Impeachment Trial Amid Controversy"

The Texas Senate is set to hear from a seven-senator committee that was directed to create the rules to govern the impeachment trial of suspended Attorney General Ken Paxton. Paxton's legal team has urged the committee to recommend rules that would allow the Senate to toss out the House-approved articles of impeachment, calling the procedure a "kangaroo court" because Paxton was not given the opportunity to defend himself. The House managers have sent the Senate committee 17 examples of rules that were used in past impeachment trials in Texas, including a recusal rule. Paxton's permanent removal from office would require a two-thirds vote in the Senate.
