Political Turmoil Continues in UK Amidst Resignations and Inquiries

Former cabinet minister Nadine Dorries has delayed her resignation as MP for Mid Bedfordshire until she receives more information on why she was denied a peerage. Dorries accused Rishi Sunak's team of removing her name from Boris Johnson's resignation honours list. She has requested all correspondence around her removal and put in Subject Access Requests to the House of Lords Appointments Commission, Cabinet Secretary, and the Cabinet Office. "UK Politics: Battle for Credibility and Loyalty Between Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak"

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has accused Chancellor Rishi Sunak of being "too weak" to block Boris Johnson's honours list, which included awards for some of his closest aides from the Covid era. Mr Sunak insisted he had acted "in line with established conventions". Sir Keir repeated his call for an immediate general election, accusing the Conservatives of getting their priorities wrong.

The Fallout of Boris Johnson's Resignation from Parliament.

Boris Johnson, likened to Donald Trump for his chronic incapacity to be truthful and honest, thirst for showmanship and self-promotion, and wildly irresponsible attitudes to governing, resigned as an MP before being sanctioned by the Privileges Committee for deliberately misleading the House over Partygate. Johnson accused the current prime minister of overseeing a government that is “not properly Conservative” and criticized the Partygate investigation. Johnson's resignation list included honours for his cronies, enablers, and flunkeys, some of whom were key Partygate protagonists, despite blaming them for his downfall.

Sunak stands firm against Johnson's honours request.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has rejected a request from former Prime Minister Boris Johnson to overrule an independent body and allow some of his allies to join parliament's upper chamber. Johnson's honours list, which included lifetime seats in the House of Lords, was not approved by the body that vets such appointments. Sunak, who has struggled to unify the Conservative Party behind him, said he had no sympathy for those who did not like his decision. Johnson resigned from parliament on Friday in protest against lawmakers investigating whether he misled parliament over illegal parties during COVID lockdowns at his Downing Street office when he was prime minister.

Boris Johnson's Exit Sends Shockwaves Through UK Politics

Energy Secretary Grant Shapps has said that the country "wants to move on" from Boris Johnson, dismissing claims that the former PM was the victim of a witch hunt. Shapps also denied reports that Rishi Sunak's team prevented Johnson from handing out honours to key allies. Johnson resigned as an MP, saying he had been forced out by a "Kangaroo Court" of MPs investigating Partygate. His resignation also triggers a by-election in his marginal constituency of Uxbridge and South Ruislip, along with two other safe seats for the Conservatives.
