In 1957, Glasgow launched a massive TB screening campaign, incentivizing participation with prize draws that included unconventional rewards like cigarettes, chickens, and chocolates. This effort, involving 12,000 volunteers and extensive publicity, screened over 700,000 people, significantly reducing TB cases and preventing an estimated 4,599 cases in the following years. A new study highlights the campaign's success and suggests its strategies could inform current global TB eradication efforts, as TB remains a major health issue worldwide.
