Lucas Pinheiro Braathen became the first South American to win Winter Olympics gold and Brazil’s first Winter Games gold by winning the men’s giant slalom in Bormio, finishing 0.58 seconds ahead of Marco Odermatt. After retiring in 2023 and switching allegiance from Norway to Brazil, Braathen celebrated with samba-inspired flair and discussed how Brazil and soccer culture helped shape him.
