DOJ fines Apple $25M for discriminatory hiring practices
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has accused Apple of illegally discriminating against US citizens and residents in its hiring practices, favoring foreign workers for certain positions. As part of a settlement, Apple has agreed to pay up to $25 million in back pay and civil penalties. The DOJ investigation found that Apple violated anti-discrimination requirements under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Apple has acknowledged the issue and stated that it had unintentionally not been following the DOJ standard. The company is required to implement changes to its hiring practices and will be subject to departmental monitoring for the next three years.
