A hiker was rescued from Canada's Mount Fromme after following a "non-existent trail" shown on Google Maps. The hiker became stranded on a cliff, and rescuers had difficulty locating him due to dense tree cover. Two helicopter rescue technicians were lowered to the mountain and successfully found and rescued the hiker. Officials advised against using urban street map programs for wilderness navigation and recommended using paper maps, compasses, or outdoor-specific navigation apps. The rescue group has attempted to contact Google to remove the non-existent trail from Google Maps but has not received a response.
