Halide co-founder Sebastiaan de With is joining Apple’s design team to work on his ‘favorite products,’ signaling potential influence from his Lux/Halide background on Apple’s product design and camera-related work.
Halide co-founder Sebastiaan de With has joined Apple’s Human Interface Design team, marking a return to Apple after earlier work on iCloud and Find My; the leadership move comes amid broader design changes at Apple, while Halide’s parent Lux previews Halide Mark III.
Halide, the popular iPhone photography app, will not support video capture and instead, its development team is working on a dedicated video capture app called Kino. Kino aims to provide professional recording features, taking advantage of Apple's support for log video encoding. The release of Kino is scheduled for February, and it will offer enhanced editing capabilities through the use of log video, a format that preserves more detail for post-production color grading. The app's features and pricing are yet to be revealed, but the development team plans to openly share updates along the way.
The popular camera app Halide has found a way to utilize the new Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max for in-app interactions. Users can set custom shortcuts in the Action Button settings to perform various actions within the app, such as switching between lenses and enabling or disabling RAW. However, the only way to use these in-app actions is by setting the Action Button to open Halide, which may interfere with its functionality when the app is not in use. The latest Halide update also improves support for the new iPhones and is available for download on the App Store with a subscription or lifetime license.
