DOE selects National Grid, Berkshire Hathaway, and Grid United for transmission projects with $1.3B support
The Department of Energy (DOE) has selected three transmission projects by National Grid, Berkshire Hathaway, and Grid United, along with their partners, to buy capacity as part of the Transmission Facilitation Program. This program aims to facilitate project financing and improve grid reliability. The selected projects include the Twin States Clean Energy Link, Southline Transmission's first phase, and Cross-Tie. The DOE plans to serve as an "anchor customer" by buying up to half of each project's capacity. Construction on the projects could begin in 2025, with operations expected to start in 2027 and 2028. The projects will deliver affordable clean energy, enhance grid resilience, and benefit rural and underserved communities. The DOE expects to release a second round of funding for the program in the first half of 2024.
