Michigan GOP Lawmaker Removed from Committees Over Racist Theory Post
Michigan Republican state representative Josh Schriver has been stripped of his office staff and committee assignments after sharing a social media post about the racist “great replacement” theory. The decision came after Schriver uploaded a picture depicting Black figures covering most of a world map, with white figures in small areas, and made comments echoing elements of the replacement theory. Michigan house speaker Joe Tate revoked Schriver’s privileges, stating that the legislative house would not be a forum for racist, hateful, and bigoted speech. While some Republicans defended Schriver, others condemned his actions, and Michigan’s Democrat governor, Gretchen Whitmer, criticized the failure of Republican leaders to condemn the material.
