"Polish Election Results: PiS Leads, Far-Right Party Holds Balance of Power"

Poland's ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party is ahead in parliamentary elections but is projected to fall short of a majority, according to an exit poll. The liberal opposition, led by the Civic Coalition (KO), is expected to seek a governing coalition. The PiS party received 36.8% of the vote, while the KO received 31.6%. The official results will be announced later. The KO leader, Donald Tusk, aims to improve relations with Brussels, which have been strained due to clashes over issues such as judicial independence and LGBT rights.

Shehbaz Sharif wins vote of confidence as Pakistani Prime Minister.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has won a vote of confidence from the national assembly, securing 180 votes, against the 172 required to achieve a simple majority in the lower house of the parliament. The show of force by the governing coalition comes as a setback to the opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which has been trying to force early elections. Pakistan is expected to hold a general vote in October.
