Goodhue City Avoids Law Enforcement Crisis by Outsourcing Policing
The small city of Goodhue, Minnesota narrowly avoided being left without law enforcement after its entire police department resigned earlier this month. Just hours before the department's final day, the Goodhue City Council approved a temporary contract with the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office to provide policing services until the end of the year. The contract includes at least six hours of patrolling per day and costs the city $43,548. Former Police Chief Josh Smith cited low pay as a reason for the resignations, and the council had been working on increasing officer salaries.
