"Golden Gate Bridge Outfitted with Suicide Prevention Net"
The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco has been equipped with a suicide prevention net, which has been installed around 95% of the bridge to deter individuals from jumping. The net's completion comes after years of advocacy from families and survivors, with the aim to reduce the number of deaths, which have totaled around 2,000 since the bridge's opening in 1937. The net is already showing positive results, with a significant reduction in confirmed suicides during its construction phase in 2023.
