The flaw, a powder metal defect that can lead to cracks in engine components, has caused concern in an industry already grappling with staff shortages and supply chain issues. RTX will need to inspect 600 to 700 Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan engines over the next three years, potentially grounding an average of 350 jets per year through 2026.
