The Truth About NYC's Sinking and the Role of Skyscrapers

Contrary to a previous study, scientists from NASA and Rutgers have found that New York City's skyscrapers are not causing the city to sink. However, the city is sinking at an average rate of 0.06 inches per year, primarily due to natural geographical phenomena related to the melting of ancient glacial ice sheets. Interestingly, some parts of the city are actually rising, and researchers are unsure why. The study also identified "hotspots" sinking faster, particularly areas located on landfills, while others are experiencing uplift.
