GOP Introduces Election Integrity Legislation
House Republicans have introduced the American Confidence in Elections (ACE) Act, a voting legislation aimed at enhancing election security. The bill, which includes provisions such as mandating access to voter data, requiring citizenship status on identification documents, and reducing grants for states allowing noncitizens to vote, is seen by Democrats as rooted in former President Donald Trump's election denial. Critics argue that the bill would make it harder to vote and disproportionately disenfranchise people of color. While the GOP legislation is unlikely to pass in the Democratic-controlled Senate, Democrats have also struggled to pass their own voting rights legislation.
