Mosquito-borne virus spreads to Chatham and Mobile Counties

The Coastal Health District in Georgia has issued an alert after a chicken tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), a mosquito-borne virus that causes brain swelling. The virus can be transmitted to humans through mosquito bites. Mosquito Control is spraying in the affected area, and residents are advised to follow mosquito bite prevention measures such as avoiding dusk and dawn activities, wearing protective clothing, using insect repellent, eliminating standing water, and ensuring doors and windows are properly sealed.
