The remains of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry and author Arthur C. Clarke, along with about 200 others, were on board a lunar lander launched by Astrobotics Technology. However, the mission went wrong, and the lander's propulsion system failed, leading to a decision to allow it to re-enter Earth's atmosphere and burn up rather than risk becoming space junk. This outcome means that the remains will not rest on the moon as planned, and the mission, which was part of a larger effort involving NASA and private companies, is expected to re-enter the atmosphere on Jan. 18 without posing any danger.
