Missouri AG Files Lawsuit Against Health Provider Over Lack of Mental Evaluations for Sex Reassignments
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has filed a lawsuit against Southampton Healthcare, accusing the healthcare provider of providing gender transition interventions to minors without conducting comprehensive mental health assessments, as required by state law. The lawsuit comes after the implementation of Missouri's Save Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act, which bans gender-changing treatments for minors. Bailey's office had previously sent a letter to various healthcare providers warning them to cease providing experimental treatments. The lawsuit seeks restitution for victims, penalties for violations, and an injunction to prevent future violations.
