Bologna's Leaning Tower Secured with Wooden Planks to Prevent Collapse
Bologna's 154ft leaning tower, the Garisenda Tower, has been temporarily held up with planks of wood and sealed off due to fears of imminent collapse. The city has built a barrier around the tower to collect debris, while blocks of wood and metal wiring are being used to stabilize the structure. Recent monitoring has shown shifts in the tower's lean, indicating weak foundations. A budget of €4.3m has been allocated for repairs, scheduled to take place in January and February. The tower's historical and cultural significance makes its potential loss tragic for Bologna and Italy.
