Dealers at Art Basel hoped to boost the art market after a disappointing series of auctions in New York in May, but the fair's bustle didn't always translate into sales. The event featured 284 international galleries specializing in 20th and 21st-century art, with several trophy-level works on consignment from private collections. TEFAF New York, one of two annual fairs staged by the European Fine Art Foundation, fills the historic Park Avenue Armory in Manhattan with nearly 100 exhibitors showcasing modern and contemporary art and design objects, even spilling into the hallways and up to the second floor. The fair offers a deluge of furniture, jewelry, art and antiquities spanning several millenniums, often in a single booth. Megagalleries like Pace and David Zwirner lead off the fair with strong solo presentations, while galleries like Karma and Demisch Danant make everything-but-the-kitchen-sink art fair booths into coherent exhibitions.

UTA's arrival has been met with optimism, but some concerns have been raised that the agency may not promote Atlanta and Georgia artists. UTA's gallery is seen as a potential partner for making art in the city more accessible.
