Advancements in Ultrasound Technology Revolutionize Brain Research and Medical Exams
Researchers at Rice University have successfully tested a noninvasive, ultrasound-based technique for gene delivery to multiple regions of the brain in rodents. The technique, known as focused ultrasound blood-brain barrier opening (FUS-BBBO), allows for the safe and efficient delivery of gene therapy throughout the brain, potentially overcoming the challenges of treating genetic disorders that affect large brain regions. The study found that the efficiency of gene delivery improved within each targeted site when more sites were opened, suggesting the potential for enhanced treatment outcomes.
