Virtual Boy Enthusiast Revives Nintendo's Forgotten Console with New Tech and Games

Despite being considered a failure, the Virtual Boy console from Nintendo has a small but dedicated community of engineers and developers who are keeping the system alive nearly three decades after its release. Kevin Mellott, the engineer behind RetroOnyx, is creating and selling after-market hardware for the Virtual Boy, including power adaptors and flashcarts. He has also funded the development of Virtual WarZone, a tank combat game built specifically for the Virtual Boy. Mellott's passion for the console stems from his childhood fascination with its 3D capabilities, and he plans to continue supporting the development of original titles for the Virtual Boy through RetroOnyx. He is currently working on a new flashcart called MultiBoy, which will allow players to access the Virtual Boy's entire library and select games through an on-screen menu.
