"Democracy Under Threat: Suspension of Opposition MPs Raises Concerns"
The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a circular outlining strict measures restricting the 49 suspended opposition MPs from various parliamentary activities, including entering the Parliament chamber, lobby, and galleries. They are also prohibited from participating in committee sittings, tabling notices, and voting at committee elections during their suspension. Additionally, the suspended MPs will not receive daily allowances for the remainder of the session. The suspension of 141 MPs, 95 from the Lok Sabha and 46 from the Rajya Sabha, has deepened the crisis in Parliament, with the opposition demanding a discussion on a recent security breach. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge announced a nationwide protest against the suspension on December 22.
