Google has confirmed that Fast Pair for Google TV is currently supported only on four devices: Chromecast with Google TV, Chromecast with Google TV (HD), Google TV Streamer, and Walmart Onn 4K Plus, with support being optional and device makers able to enable it. Google is working with partners to expand support, but the rollout has been limited and somewhat unclear.
Google's Fast Pair service, designed to simplify Bluetooth device pairing, has only been supported on four Google TV devices a year after its announcement, with Google working to expand support through partnerships, but the process remains cumbersome for most users.
Google announces that Fast Pair support will be rolling out to the Chromecast with Google TV in the next month, with plans to expand to more Google TV devices later this year. Additionally, new features such as casting TikTok videos with auto-play and future support for live content are being introduced. Hardware announcements include Chromecast built-in support for the 2024 LG TV series and partner launches with Hisense and TCL. Google is also enabling select Google TV and Android TV OS devices, as well as LG TVs, to be used as Matter hubs for Google Home, allowing for easy addition and local control of Matter devices in the home network.
At CES 2024, Google announced exciting new Android features, including Quick Share for seamless content sharing across Android devices, expansion of Fast Pair to support Chromecast and other Google TV devices, casting capabilities for TikTok and music apps, interoperability with Matter for smart home devices, and the integration of Google apps and services into more car brands for enhanced driving experiences.
