"CableMod's GPU Power Adapters Recalled for Fire Hazards"

CableMod is recalling 25,300 of its 12VHPWR angled adapters due to a failure rate of 1.07%, with at least 272 adapters reported as failed. The recall, prompted by a warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, advises owners to stop using the adapters immediately and offers a full refund of $40 or a $60 store credit. The issue with the adapters is distinct from larger design flaws and is related to the male portion of the adapters, which was not altered in the 12V-2x6 update.

Late '23 & '24 will make the '08 financial crisis look quaint for startups, according to Loverro.

The Declining Reliability of HDDs: Is it Time to Switch to SSDs?

Backblaze has published its quarterly hard disk drive failure rate statistics, revealing that the annualized failure rates (AFR) have remained relatively stable. As the HDD population grows, the average AFR is 1.54 percent. The latest report shows a recovery in drive reliability after a 10TB failure rate peak, with the newest 16TB drives being the most reliable in Backblaze's HDD buying history. Seagate has the lowest reliability rating, and the average age of failed drives is two years and six months. Backblaze's HDD test data page is available for public use, but users must cite Backblaze as the source and cannot sell the data.
