"California and Nevada engulfed in perilous 'fire whirls' as massive blaze rages on"
The massive York Fire burning across California and Nevada is generating extreme fire behavior, including the formation of dangerous "fire whirls" or fire tornadoes. The fire, which has consumed 77,000 acres and remains 0% contained, started in the Mojave National Preserve and crossed into Nevada. Firefighters are facing scorching temperatures and unpredictable conditions. In addition, another out-of-control fire in northern Washington state has crossed the Canadian border, forcing evacuations. As hot and dry conditions persist, there are currently 64 active large fires burning across nine states in the US.
