Telemarketing Scam Operators Fined $6.6 Million and Banned for Life

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has obtained a $6.6 million judgment against Kole Consulting Group, the owner of America Vehicle Protection (AVP), a company that scammed consumers by selling deceptive "bumper-to-bumper" coverage. The judgment includes a lifetime ban on AVP from extended automobile warranty marketing and outbound telemarketing. While the judgment has been partially suspended due to the defendant's inability to pay, the owner will have to surrender $500,000, and any lies about their financial situation could result in the full judgment being enforced.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is proposing court orders that may lead to a lifetime ban from all outbound telemarketing and the extended automobile warranty industry for the operators of an "extended vehicle warranty" scam that cost consumers over $6M. The scammers placed hundreds of thousands of unsolicited calls to American consumers, claiming to be affiliated with vehicle makers and offering "bumper to bumper" protection. The companies and their owners implicated in the scam have agreed to the proposed orders, which include a monetary judgment of $6.6 million.
