The high prices are attributed to a scarcity of land and a large number of highly paid professionals living in the city. Other expensive neighborhoods include Northwest Auburn, California and Old Town Carpinteria, California. In contrast, the economically depressed Homewood North neighborhood in Pittsburgh ranks last with homes costing $29 per square foot.
