Tragic Death: Mother of 2 Overhydrates as Medical Staff Distracted by Phones
An inquest into the death of a mother-of-two in England has found that she died after drinking excessive amounts of water while medical staff at the Millbrook Mental Health Unit were distracted by their phones. The investigation revealed that the staff failed to diagnose her condition of psychogenic polydipsia, a psychiatric disorder characterized by excessive water drinking, and she had unmonitored access to water. Despite being tranquilized and slipping into a coma, the staff believed she had fallen asleep. The Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the unit, admitted to several failures in care and expressed condolences to the family. The woman's husband stated that earlier intervention could have saved her life.
