Deadly Clashes Erupt in Northeastern India as Troops Battle Insurgents
Dozens of rebel fighters have been killed in clashes with security forces in India's northeastern state of Manipur, where ethnic unrest began earlier this month over plans to extend economic quotas to the ethnic majority Meitei. The state has been on edge since the explosion of inter-ethnic violence on May 3 between tribal groups and the Meitei people. New Delhi has deployed security forces to the state and imposed a curfew. Mobile internet in the area has been cut for weeks.
