Tropical Depression Likely to Form in Atlantic Ocean

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave, Invest Area 92L, which could develop into a tropical depression by next week. The system is currently located south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear conducive for the system to develop further, and forecasters say a tropical depression is likely to form in the early to middle part of next week as the system continues to move west across the Atlantic at 15-20 mph. The organization's tropical weather outlook gives it a 50 percent chance to develop over the next 48 hours and 70 percent over the next seven days.

Tropical Wave from Africa Draws Attention of Hurricane Forecasters.

A tropical wave moving across the Atlantic has a low chance of development over the next week, but environmental conditions may be conducive to gradual development. It is rare to see tropical development in this area during June, with fewer than ten storms forming in this region since records began in 1851. The combination of water temperatures resembling August and September and weak winds in the upper atmosphere are contributing factors. Environmental conditions closer to home are not as favorable for development, but it is too early to determine its path.
