Windows CE: The End of an Era
Microsoft's Windows CE, the dedicated operating system for embedded and pocket devices, has reached the end of its support lifetime. The OS, which debuted in 1996, had fluctuating fortunes and was eventually replaced by a unified platform based on Windows 8. The last version, CE 8, reached its end of support earlier this month. While Windows CE will no longer receive updates, it can still be purchased for use in point-of-sale devices and other embedded hardware.
