Windows CE: The End of an Era

Microsoft's Windows CE, the dedicated operating system for embedded and pocket devices, has reached the end of its support lifetime. The OS, which debuted in 1996, had fluctuating fortunes and was eventually replaced by a unified platform based on Windows 8. The last version, CE 8, reached its end of support earlier this month. While Windows CE will no longer receive updates, it can still be purchased for use in point-of-sale devices and other embedded hardware.

Martin Cooper, the father of the cellphone, predicts that artificial intelligence will continue the revolution in how we communicate and that cellphones will become a part of us with parts embedded under our skin. He believes that there are many improvements yet to be made in a cellphone and that we are just at the beginning of the cellphone revolution. Cooper made the first-ever cellphone call 50 years ago and pushed for the cellphone while competitors placed their bets elsewhere.
